A new colony established for religious freedom for all.

The birthplace of a new form of government and a new nation.

A bloody battle that changed the course of a civil war.

All this and more are events from Pennsylvania's past.

While history can be learned through dry boring textbooks, PA History Alive celebrates the history of Pennsylvania through wonderful living books and visits to the sites of history's action.

We define a living book as one that helps you see, feel and understand the people and times of the past in a way that touches the emotions. It may be a children's picture book, or a youth historical fiction. It may be a autobiography or a well written history by an author such as David McCullough.  It is a book that promotes a deeper awareness of the historical time period and leaves you with a longing to learn more.

PA History Alive website is newly formed and is very "bare bones" yet. We plan to add to the site weekly. We hope to be of benefit to a parent looking for profitable reading material for their child, a teacher searching for good history resources, and adult seeking to learn more of their heritage.

Sign up to receive email updates. (It is free.) Check out our blog where we'll add book reviews. Browse through one of the categories on top of the page to find a book on the facet of history that interests you.

We'd love to have your help. If you have a book that brought history alive to you or have visited a part of Pennsylvania that helped you "see" history, please write to us and tell us about it.

Thanks for your visit!
