About

I was the child who endured countless stops along the highway to read historical markers. (Above photo is my brother and I.)

Every family vacation included a visit to a  historic site or living history event.

Countless hours were spent curled up on the couch while Dad read about pioneers crossing the mountains and enduring harsh conditions to build their homestead.

My dad loved history. Through his stories, I gained an appreciation of the people who had walked this land before me.

I especially enjoyed his tales of local history. Reading about the ancient events in other lands may be boring but knowing that the Confederate cavalry traveled the road past our stone farm house made that page of history come alive. A discovery of the cabin site of a family killed by the Indians in the field next to our house brought fresh eyes to the hostilities of the French and Indian War.

Not everyone has a dad that makes history a fascinating subject, but numerous authors have painted with words the history of the people and times who make up this state. Dedicated historians have researched the past and designed historical sites to teach us their knowledge.

This site is about some of the resources that my husband Ed and I (Gina) have found and enjoyed with our four children as we learn more about our state. Whether you live in Penn's Woods and pick up Civil War artifacts in your back yard or if you are half a world away and are fascinated by the colorful history that took place in this state, I hope you find some resources here that bring your history study alive.

Just a note, I am a Christian and worship in a conservative Mennonite church. The opinions reflected in my reviews will most likely be impacted by my beliefs.
